By His Goodness, All Are Fed

David McKenna, who volunteers every Saturday with a group from Grace Community Church in New Canaan, recalls a “tough” little girl who would take the food she was offered, look him straight in the eye and drop it on the ground. It pained him to imagine what had happened in her young life to cause such a reaction.

The greatest challenge to the impact the volunteers can have on the residents in these communities, David believes, is consistency. “We need to show up regardless of the weather,” David stresses. “It is the nature of their lives not to trust people. For us not to be consistent is just one more disappointment for them.”

Acceptance, friendship, encouragement, trust, love … so many volunteers offer the Bread of Life to hungry souls in all shapes and forms. Food is simply what brings them to the table. Every day we serve the hungry in our community and share the fellowship of giving thanks to God, for His blessings of life and unlimited opportunities.
