Services and Programs - Changing Lives
Chris finds fulfillment in helping other men at the Mission learn to read God’s Word.
If it weren’t for your support ...Chris entered our New Life Discipleship Program, and with the guidance of his counselors and other men in the program, he’s learning what it takes to be a responsible, ethical and upstanding man of God. “I’ve met a lot of really good brothers who will help me any time I need it. They’ve been addicts or in and out of prison themselves. They understand where I’m coming from spiritually, too, because they’re new in their spiritual walks, too. It’s like a Christian boot camp—it’s a good thing!” Now following the example of Jesus, Chris also feels called to help others. “Some of the men here have trouble reading or have never learned, and they have a hard time understanding devotions. So I help them read stories from the children’s Bible. They say you learn more when you teach, and that’s true. I help them and they help me.” Chris has a simple philosophy, too, when it comes to staying on the right path in life: “If in everything you do you ask, ‘Is this something that would please or glorify God?’ then it’s really tough to do a lot of bad stuff.” When Chris graduates from our program in June, he hopes to work in the ministry or mission field and is considering several options. But he knows those doors would not be open to him if it weren’t for the support of our many friends. “We appreciate the donors and we don’t always have a chance to thank them,” Chris says. “And the volunteers who teach classes are people who take time out of their day and they don’t get paid. It’s really a nice thing that they would just come in and help us. We truly appreciate it—the food, shelter, clothing and volunteer time.” We are so grateful for the generosity of our supporters!
