	Does it seem like a dollar doesn’t go very far anymore? It won’t buy you a cup of gourmet coffee or a gallon of gas, but at Bridgeport Rescue Mission, $1 can help change a life forever. Hundreds of men, women and children turn to Bridgeport Rescue Mission for assistance every single day. Some are struggling with mental and physical illnesses or addictions . . . still more are on the edge of homelessness . . . and others are already on the streets. But you can help transform their lives with an investment of as little as $1 day for the 90 days of summer. That’s all it takes to help us provide the homeless and hurting with food, shelter, Christian counseling, education . . . and a chance to start life anew. Today, we need your help more than ever before because the challenges we’re facing are critical. Due to the prolonged economic downturn, so many in our community are in desperate need. And during the summer months, things won’t get any better . . . Landlords who might “carry” those behind in their rent during the cold winter months are more likely to evict them during the summer. Utility companies cut off services. And family food bills go up with children home from school for the summer. During June, July and August, we will serve 116,000 meals and provide 6,900 nights of shelter to those who might otherwise go without. We will also distribute almost 800 food boxes, which contain enough food to feed a family of four for a week— over 22,000 more meals! And throughout the summer months our operating expenses will jump significantly. The cost of utilities alone at the Men’s facility will rise 19 percent, while utilities at the Women’s Shelter will skyrocket by 42 percent! Here’s the most challenging part: We anticipate our expenses during June, July and August will climb to over $375,000 but typically our income during this time period is not enough to cover our costs. Somehow, someway, we have to do more . . . with less. We truly need your help. Your investment of $1 a day for 90 days of summer will help us fight poverty from the inside out and bring a big return: the hungry will be fed, the homeless sheltered and the lost will find new life in Christ.
